When you love what you do.

The short story of
Sleepyhouse.

Like a wandering traveller with no set agenda, we took the long and scenic road to get here.

We started Sleepyhouse not because there is a need in the market (although we firmly believe there is), but because we needed to do it. For ourselves.

As a family, we have travelled the world, we have experienced the sincere welcome of global hospitality, and we have had the great fortune to make so many great friends on our stops along the way. We have been lucky, and we want to pay the travelling universe back.

Our passion for great travel experiences has always been met with an equal devotion to running a great business. Now with an older family and firmly planted roots, we are finally able to combine our two great passions.

There is nowhere in the world we would rather play the role of hosts than beautiful Atlantic Canada.

20+

Years of industry experience.

We have been involved in the property world since the early 2000’s and we have pretty much done all you can inside the industry. We have spent years on the marketing side, the operations side, the brokerage ownership side, the investment side and now the fun side.

You could say we are industry lifers.

100’s

Of clients served.

Running our own operations our whole adult life has taught us time and again about the value of building real trust with our people. We take no business relationship for granted and know that longevity in the business world comes from keeping your promises.

Like we have our whole careers, we shoot for a ★★★★★ experience each & every time.

The Sleepyhouse way.

The ideal East coast vacation experience is all about letting go of the baggage, rediscovering a sense of adventure and finding your flow out there again. And we like working that very same way. So, we just do what seems right, we do things our way and it seems to all work out pretty great.

Here are a few small Sleepyhouse guiding principles that we think make a big difference:

Work like a dog.

We all know the expression, but it’s not just a hard work kinda thing.

To us, it also means loyalty to our people, bringing our best energy to work and remembering to always live in the moment.

The world sure would be a far better place if dogs were in charge.

Love our home.

This one sounds simple, as Atlantic Canada is way too easy to love, but it goes deeper than just appreciating that endless beauty.

To us, it means you have to get involved.

We are land stewards with the Nova Scotia Nature Trust, coach youth athletics, active donors to the causes we care about and always advocate for that community-first East coast way of life.

Be thankful.

Working a job we love, in a place we adore while providing memories for a lifetime. Not such a bad gig.

To us, it is worth being very thankful for each and every day we get to do it.

Earn your reputation every chance you get and remember the people who helped get you here.

Be creatives.

Vacations are probably the most fun thing you will do all year. So would it be fitting if we were stuffy and boring? We say no.

To us, a tired old approach should never apply. Finding new ways to solve more problems only brings more happy times.

We probably wouldn’t do very well in some industries, but we were made for this one.

Back it up.

Words on a website are great, but you won’t last long if your real-world actions don’t match.

To us, organization and structure in a chaotic and disorderly world is how you get it done right.

We like when nothing gets missed, so we use lots of sofware with lists and tiny little boxes you can check with ‘x’s’.

Stand apart.

The last thing we want to do is just blend in. Our properties, our marketing, our attitudes, our decision making all need to be unconventional. And for the right reasons.

To us, bringing an A-game effort towards looking at things differently is essential to making the right calls.

We see smart opportunities to stand out everywhere we look. If you are looking for typical, we likely won’t be a great fit. Sorry!

Why do we love Atlantic Canada?

It sure is a tough topic to summarize, but here’s an attempt to give you a peek into our favourite reasons why Vacationland has it all.

  • Truly epic hiking routes, world-class paddling & sailing, built for bicycles and the perfect playground for pups.

From novice to expert, the outdoor world here has unlimited opportunity for all.

  • Famous for being home to many of Canada’s top chefs and legendary dining experiences, but we love it for a much simpler reason - the abundance of independently owned eclectic eateries.

The food is real and local. From breakfast to a seafood dinner you’ll be talking about for months, there is always the perfect place nearby.

  • The East coast of Canada does not fake it very well. This is not the same vibe as on the West coast and that’s hard to explain, but it’s just a different layer of reality. The people are proud to be unique, they stay true to it and you will find everything always favours the simple and more natural side of life.

You are free to roam and to come as you are. To us, no matter where we go in Atlantic Canada, we always feel like we can fit in. It’s a cool feeling and it’s everywhere.

  • A past littered with survival and conflict, charismatic folk, seafaring adventure and plenty of pirate lore to go around. Our museums are rich in information and many of the historic sites are very accessible to explore still today.

The triumph, tragedy and perseverance of our ancestors. Remarkable history is on display all over Atlantic Canada for those who appreciate revisiting our past.

  • Kindness above all else. This is one East coast tradition that we hope never disappears with time. No matter where you go you are consistently met with a smile, some assistance if needed and always some friendly conversation.

Canadians are internationally famous for our welcoming nature, but Atlantic Canada is truly home to that label.

Say hey.
